"By the Waters of Babylon" is available
for the SSATB and SAATB vocal ranges. It is a choral round about how the Jewish people look on from Babylon as their city, Sion/ Zion, or Jerusalem is destroyed.

This piece was based off of the Bible verse Psalm: 137: By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion. for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!"

Psalm 137 is a hymn expressing the yearnings of the Jewish people during their Babylonian exile. In its whole form of nine verses, the psalm reflects the yearning for Jerusalem as well as hatred for the Holy City's enemies (the Babylonians in this case) with sometimes violent imagery.
